Dr Jan Marek
Jan Marek is trained as paediatric cardiologist (Prague, Houston, and Toronto). Since 1991 he has specialised in paediatric and prenatal echocardiography and had contributed to establishing ECHO departments in Prague (Kardiocentrum, University Hospital Motol), Munich (Deutsches Herzzentrum) and London (Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children).
He also participated in developing nation-wide foetal cardiac screening program in the Czech Republic. Between 1993 and 2005 he worked as a director of ECHO department and centre of prenatal cardiology (Prague). In 2005 he was appointed as a director of ECHO department at Great Ormond Street Hospital and senior honorary lecturer of Institute of Child Health in London, where he implemented all modern ECHO techniques incl. real-time 3DE, and tissue deformation imaging incl. dyssynchrony assessment.
He completed five grants as a principle investigator and published one textbook. Among others, he was a chairman of Paediatric Cardiology working group of the Czech Society of Cardiology in 1997-1999, in 1999-2002 member of council of Foetal Working Group of Association of European Paediatric Cardiology (AEPC). Since 2008 he is associated Professor.
